TPU Tubes and MKS Pedals are here

Two shipments came in this week. From Japan, we received MKS pedals. I’ll never forget visiting the MKS factory during my first visit to Japan, years ago. After seeing huge machines forge all kinds of specialized parts for the automotive industry, we entered a small room where the top-end pedals were assembled by a single employee. Wearing white gloves, he tightened each pedal. He then checked the play of the cartridge bearings, unscrewed the retaining nut again, and added a few washers to take out the slack. He repeated this until the pedal spun silky-smooth. The speed with which this happened showed the long experience of this employee: It didn’t take many iterations to arrive at the perfect preload.

It was then and there that we decided to add the top-of-the-line MKS pedals to the Rene Herse program. (They make pedals at all quality levels.) We now have the entire program back in stock, including the popular Sylvan Next that’s available in a two-sided ‘Touring’ (above) and a single-sided ‘Road / Track’. The ‘Touring’ is my preferred pedal for use without toeclips, as the cages interlock with the soles of my hiking boots. (They also work with toeclips.) The ‘Road / Track’ is a classic pedal intended for toeclips. Both are also available in a Rinko version.

From Germany came more TPU tubes. Making these tubes to our quality standards takes time, and it’s been hard to keep up with demand since we introduced these tubes in the spring. All models are in stock now—this is a great opportunity to stock up for next year.
