Aluminum nipples save about 40 g where it matters: at the outer perimeter of your wheels. Sapim aluminum nipples are as strong as brass nippples—suitable for rear wheels and bikes with disc brakes. The round head of the Polyax nipples works like a ball-joint between rim and nipple to ensure a better spoke/nipple line.

Pro Tip: A smooth-turning spoke nipple makes wheel truing much easier and more precise. To lubricate your rim’s spoke holes before you build the wheel, dab a drop of oil onto the head of a Q-Tip and insert it into each hole.
