Tire Wipers

Debris usually gets picked up by the tires without causing a puncture. After getting hammered into the tire during subsequent wheel revolutions, it finally works through the tread and into the tube.

Racers used to wipe their tires with their gloves to remove debris. Rather than use your hands and risk injury (especially on the rear, where your hand can get stuck between tire and frame), you can install these tire wipers. They rub lightly on the tire tread and brush off most debris before it has a chance to lodge itself in the tire. From our experience, this avoids 80-90% of the flats from glass and steel wires.

Tire wipers work only with smooth tires. They come in two versions:

• brake-mount for bikes without fenders go on the end of the brake mounting bolt. Unfortunately, these don’t work well with recessed brake nuts.
• fender-mount for fully equipped bikes. Fender-mount model includes M5 bolt, nut and washer for mounting, requires drilling a 5 mm hole near the trailing edge of the fender.
